When you’re at your boiling point and you just don’t know what else to do besides scream. Take a second and try some of these things to help reduce your stress, clear your mind, and not throw your computer against the wall.
Even doing a short sun salutation can do wonders for your body and your mental state. It’s the breathing and the movements in yoga that allow you to become one with yourself and completely block out the world around you. Doing a simple yoga sequence for about 10 minutes can help relieve stress or if stress is that persistent in your life, sign up for a class at your local gym or a yoga studio.
Meditation and yoga sort of go hand in hand but even sleeping can be considered meditating. It’s all about clearing your mind so that when you come back to reality, you can look at things with a fresh, open mind. Get some woosah into your life.
Exercising releases endorphins. Endorphins make people happy. (Bonus points if you caught the Legally Blonde reference). But really, even just a minute of exercise can instantly put you in a better mood.
Listen to some music. Calm and relaxing music not 2 Chainz or any other kind of ratchetness. Listening to calm music can lower blood pressure and reduce the stress related hormone cortisol. You don’t have to listen to classical music but some smooth r&b can do the trick too.
Drink tea instead of coffee. Coffee contains large doses of caffeine, which causes a spike in blood pressure. This only makes a stressful situation even more stressful. Green tea not only has less than half the amount of caffeine, it has antioxidants and theanine, an amino acid that has a calming affect on the nervous system. So before you reach for that cup of coffee, opt for a nice soothing cup of green tea. (Plus, it boosts your metabolism).
