In honor of National Coffee Day, everyone should know the amazing things coffee does besides giving you your daily caffeine fix. Coffee can be used for a number of d.i.y recipes all intended to reduce under eye puffiness, cellulite, or exfoliate. The caffeine in coffee contains anti-inflammatory properties, which is what reduces puffiness and redness. So, if you struggle with under eye dark circles/puffiness, cellulite, inflammation, or dry skin, here are some great recipes that you can incorporate into your daily routine.
Exfoliating Face Scrub:
3 tablespoons of coffee grounds
1 tablespoon of natural oil: olive, grape seed, coconut, or almond
1 tablespoon of brown sugar
Mix the dry ingredients then add the oil. Massage onto your face in gentle circular motions and then rinse with warm water. The scrub will eliminate dead skin cells and also produce new cells. Say bye-bye to that dry skin.
¼ cups of coffee grounds
3 tablespoons of hot water
2 tablespoons of olive oil
Mix the coffee and hot water and let the mixture sit until the water is completely absorbed. Then mix in the olive oil. Cleanse areas with cellulite in a warm shower and apply the scrub by massaging in a circular motion for 2-4 minutes. Rinse with warm water. This is a short-term way to reduce the appearance of cellulite.
Under Eye Cream:
½ oz of coffee infused olive oil (mix 3 tbsp of ground coffee into 4 oz of olive oil, heat and then strain)
25 oz of jojoba oil
25 oz of rosehip seed oil
75 oz of shea butter
75 oz of cocoa butter
½ ml of lavender essential oil
½ ml of chamomile essential oil
5 drops of vitamin E
Using a scale, weigh out the shea and cocoa butter in a cup and microwave the two ingredients until melted. Next stir the coffee infused olive oil, rosehip seed oil, and jojoba oil into the melted butters. Then add the essential oils and finally your vitamin E. Pour the eye cream into a container and allow it to thicken.
Sidenote: If this is too much for you to do, you can always go to an all-natural store and buy a coffee cream. Just make sure you check the ingredients.
Enjoy these little helpful tips and make sure you really take advantage of every grain of coffee in your kitchen.
